Concrete-filled pipe columns subjected to centric pressure

Ivan Tomičić

Abstract

A method for analyzing either a concrete element subjected to centric load and installed in a circular pipe made of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP), or an existing circular column reinforced with the FRP, is presented. It is emphasized that, during analysis, the effect of applying longitudinal load to concrete core only must be differentiated from that applied on the core and FRP pipe, because of the difference in the pipe failure model. The best efficiency is obtained when the FRP fibres follow the pipe or strip rings.
